LOCAL INFORMATION

Florida, is the fourth State of the U.S with more than fifteen million inhabitants. Florida's official nickname, the "Sunshine State", reflects the importance of climate to its residents and visitors. The sun usually shines all year round, summers throughout the state are long, warm, and relatively humid. Winters are usually mild with occasional cooler days. Coastal areas in all sections of Florida are usually slightly warmer than inland areas in winter and cooler in summer. 

Florida is also the first State by index of development, primarily thanks to tourism and leisure but also thanks to high technologies and I.T. without forgetting citrus fruits: Florida with its orange groves is the worlds number one orange producer!     

In ten years its population increased by almost 20%. In 1999 Florida accommodated more than 56 million tourists coming from all over the world. Two cities profit particularly from this development: Orlando and Miami.

Orlando city is located in the middle of Florida, it counted 50.000 inhabitants in 1970 and can count today around 1.600.000. Disney World is based in Orlando along with many other amusement parks such as Universal Studios, Sea World and Cypress Gardens. Orlando is today the first tourist destination of the USA. Orlando is also located in "Florida High Tech Corridor" which extends from Tampa with Cape Canaveral and gathers more than 3.800 companies of high technology. The proximity of Canaveral Cape makes Orlando a powerful center in aerospace research and industries.

Miami: economic capital of Florida. Miami is a city of more than two million inhabitants. Its immense beaches bathed by turquoise waters make it a major tourist destination for tourists from all corners of the globe.   Miami is a very important business district: many industries are found there: pharmaceutical, multi-media, Television, Movie and Music industries. Miami is also the crossroads of Americas: its privileged situation, its port and its international airport make it a strategic site for the international trade.
